Best Smoothie Ever!

One of the few things I enjoy about summertime is the excuse for ice cold drinks, preferably healthy, ice cold drinks. I love mixed berry smoothies. It's a decently healthy treat that is good enough for any time of the day, especially for dessert! It's really easy to make, too.

Ingredients:
- Equal parts of blackberries, strawberries and raspberries (frozen preferred, but fresh is fine)
- Vanilla nonfat yogurt (I like Dannon's Light & Fit Vanilla Yogurt)
- Raspberry sorbet
- Orange juice (with or without pulp)
- Crushed ice

Directions:
1. Blend the berries, yogurt, sorbet and juice.
2. Then add the crushed ice and blend again.
3. Serve and enjoy!

Sent To Vox From Google Reader

Two days ago, Google finally incorporated a highly desired feature -- well, a feature I've been coveting for some time -- into Google Reader: the ability to send links of an article the user is reading in the feed reader to the social networking website of their choosing. Since then, Google Reader has slowly been adding web services to their Send To list, which can be selected from the Settings page. Unfortunately, Vox is not on that list. Fortunately, I've figured out how to add Vox to the mix.

How to add Vox to Google Reader's Send To list:

1. In Google Reader, go to: Settings > Send To

2. Click on "Create a custom link" near the bottom of the page.

3. Type (or copy/paste) the following into the applicable fields:

Name: Vox
URL: http://www.vox.com/submit?uri=${url}&title=${title}
Icon URL: http://static.vox.com/.shared:v42.27:vox:en/images/favicon.ico

Add Vox to Google Reader Send To

4. Click Save.

Clicking on the Vox link from the Send To menu will open a new browser window or tab featuring the familiar VoxThis page.

Side note: You can use the VoxThis bookmarklet to add images from the web to your blog, bypassing the 2-step process of saving them to your computer first, then uploading them to Vox.

Other Social Networks:

As of today (8-15-2009), Google Reader's Send To list includes Blogger, Delicious, Digg, Facebook, FriendFeed, Instapaper, MySpace, Ping.fm, Posterous, Reddit, StumbleUpon, Tumblr, and Twitter. Additionally, the Google Operating System blog has provided instructions on how to add Google Bookmarks and AddToAny to the Send To list.

Update 8-16-2009: Instructions for adding LiveJournal to Google Reader's Send To list is now available, courtesy of Jordan Running.

Update 8-19-2009: Lifehacker now features an extensive list of services to add to Google Reader's Send To list.

Update 8-31-2009: MakeUseOf also has instructions on how to add even more services to Send To.

Flock's Start Page for Firefox

I keep hoping someone will make a Firefox extension mimicking Flock's start page.

I would attempt to create said extension, but I don't have the knowledge and skill to tackle this myself (or even to help someone else).

Michigan in Pictures

A website I visit daily that has quickly become on of my favorite blogs. If you have ever wondered what can possibly happen in Michigan or what else this state is comprised of besides the automakers, then please check out this blog. It is updated regularly and features beautiful photos, mostly from Flickr, that express the beauty and uniqueness of my home state. Oftentimes, background information and links to other resources for further reading are also included, which enriches the viewing experience and brings another depth to the photos.

Help save our planet! Say 'No' to the unsolicited delivery of phone directory books by signing up to opt-out of yellow pages and white pages book mailings to your home, office or business.

I rely on whitepages.com and Google411, among other websites, for phone directories and looking up addresses. I never use the bulky, paper phone books we receive in the mail each year, so I always recycle them. If you don't use the large and cumbersome Yellow Pages and/or White Pages phone directory books that are mailed (sometimes in duplicate or triplicate) to virtually every personal residence and business address within the United States, I hope you recycle them or reuse/repurpose them. However, wouldn't it be more environmentally responsible to prevent those books from being mailed to you in the first place?

Yellow Pages Goes Green is a grassroots organization that is environmentally conscious. They have created an option to opt-out of the delivery of Yellow Pages and/or White Pages phone books. Signing up to opt-out of these mailings is similar to the National Do-Not-Call Registry. They send your request to the telephone directory organizations so that they will stop mailing the books to the address you provide. You can provide your home address and your office/business address (provided you are the business proprietor or have permission from the necessary personnel).

Yellow Pages Goes Green also expresses ideas to petition for the country-wide cessation of unsolicited phone book mailings. Please view the website for more information, including links to other "green," environmentally conscious websites and organizations.

New Themes!

Vox / Six Apart used some of my Design to Inspire banners for official themes! The lilacs design featured in the center and the minimalist aqua design to the right are my creations. I'm so excited and very happy to share them.

In my previous non-Tweet post, I mentioned that I would release my Design To Inspire banners to the Vox community for use with Personalized Vox themes. Well, my reason for not yet doing so became clear yesterday when Vox implemented two of my designs as official Vox themes!

I was extremely honored when Lilia from Vox and Six Apart contacted me requesting permission to use my Design To Inspire banners for Vox, LiveJournal, and Typepad. Honestly, upon entering my submissions I had the full intention of releasing any of my submitted banners that did not win the contest to the Vox community, so their request made me extremely happy. I'm glad the team liked my designs enough to use them. I hope all Vox, LiveJournal and Typepad users enjoy my designs, as well as any designs from the Design To Inspire contest that Six Apart may release in the future. I look forward to seeing what additional themes resulting from this contest will be released in the coming months. In the interim I'm going to enjoy switching between the various Vox themes introduced within the past month, and may even use some designed by me!

This was inspired by a photograph of lilacs I captured at a historic landmark that is very dear to my heart on a delightfully warm, sunny day. The lilacs smelled wonderfully sweet and intoxicatingly uplifting.
